Texas authorities have approved the investment of five billion dollars for the construction of a system that will carry electricity obtained from wind energy in the big cities.
The electric lines will support 18,500 megawatts produced from wind energy till 2012. These megawatts will provide energy for 3 million houses from Texas.
The costs of the plan exceed 5 billion dollars. The investment will add 4 U.S. dollars to the Texans bill, but authorities hope that wind energy will reduce state dependence of natural gas. American state have and one of the highest electricity prices from U.S. because of the large subsidies granted to the wind energy developers.
If electric lines will be able to sustain the 18,500 megawatts, the state will exceed the national capacity to generate wind power. Texas was already in the states top from U.S. who produce its electricity from no pollution sources.
“We hope that the rest of America will follow this decision,” said Dean Gosselin, vice-president of FPL Energy, FPL Group unit, the largest wind developer from Texas and the USA.
