Britain wants to slow the large-scale adoption of biofuels, for fear that the food prices will increase greatly, and the environment will suffer an imbalance. Ruth Kelly, secretary of the Ministry of Transport in the UK said that the biofuels use means less carbon emissions, but there are a lot of questions about their use.
The uncontrolled increase of these plants could destroy many forest areas. The official said that the government is aware with the fact that biofuels play an important role in reducing carbon emissions and fighting against climate change.
“We have to act with care until we are sure that the expansion of these crops will have minimum risk and maximum benefit, without affecting the environment in any way.” Ruth Kelly added. Statement it comes to facing the intention of the European Parliament to vote a law under which up to the year 2020, 10% of used fuel in transports to be “bio”.
Secretary of State for Environment, Hilary Benn, added: “To prevent climate change must act now, but that does not mean that we should use some uncontrolled biofuels, which may do more harm than good.”
